Will Gas Drilling Be Allowed on the Shores of Greers Ferry Lake

Should gas exploration, drilling be allowed under or around Greers Ferry Lake?
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, on public lands was the focus of a public forum last month hosted by the Bureau of Land Management at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. The meeting was meant to look at the technical aspects of fracking and to receive public input.

Following the forum The Sun-Times asked Bruce Dawson, field manager for BLM eastern states, a few questions about the outcome of information gathered from the public. Dawson was at the meeting in Little Rock and heard firsthand the concerns from citizens. After going over data received at the forum, he was able to provide a few answers.

What is the BLM doing to thoroughly investigate how big of an impact there would be if Greers Ferry Lake were negatively affected by drilling?

“Currently we are preparing a land use plan (Southeastern States Resource Management Plan) and corresponding environmental impact statement (EIS) for BLM activities in nine states within the Southeastern U. S., including Arkansas.
